Ten Times the Quota
July 7. WeChat Open Class announced the Mini-Program Growth Plan upgrade: LLM token quota jumps from 100 million to 1 billion, AI image generation from 10K to 100K.
The model stack also upgrades to Tencent Hunyuan's latest Hy3 and Hy Image 3.0.
Existing developers don't re-apply — the system auto-credits 900 million tokens plus 90K image generations, batched from July 1, valid for 6 months.
What Is Hunyuan Hy3
Hy3 launched July 6 — a fast-and-slow-thinking fused MoE architecture, total params 295B, activated 21B, 256K context.
Key numbers:
- Pricing: 1 yuan per million input tokens, 4 yuan output, 0.25 yuan on cache hit
- Open source: Apache 2.0, free commercial use globally, Day 0 on HuggingFace
- Agent task success rate: 72% → 90%, average time down 34%
- SWE-Bench Verified: 74.4%
- Daily token consumption: up 20x since preview launch
In short, Tencent takes the small-activated-param route — not chasing absolute scale, activating only 7%, trading "good enough and usable" for deployment and cost advantage.
45,000 Mini-Programs Already In
The plan has signed up 45,000 mini-programs since launch, over 70% from individual developers.
WeChat's words: let developers stop watching the quota bar, and confidently embed AI deeply in their products.
That's real talk. Previously 100 million tokens meant a mini-program's AI feature ran dry in two weeks — developers had to constantly budget. Now 1 billion means you can basically let it rip.
Who's This For
WeChat's mini-program ecosystem has a unique property: built-in traffic. 45,000 programs already in means real users are already interacting with AI features.
For individual developers, it's the lowest-cost path to test AI — no server to buy, no API to wire up, no traffic to chase. Open a CloudBase environment and go.
For businesses, mini-program plus AI plus WeChat ecosystem is a proven customer-acquisition loop. Hy3's 90% agent success rate means many office-automation scenarios already run.
The One-Liner
Tencent's play is pragmatic: don't chase params, chase price-performance; don't chase tech, chase ecosystem. Hy3 sits at the lower end of China's tier-one pricing, and 1 billion tokens locks developers into the WeChat ecosystem.
Unlike Zhipu's reach-high route, Tencent walks the grounded utility path. Neither is wrong — see who reaches the endgame first.
