- No SD4: rumors of an "SD4 launch" in April 2026 are fake news; no such model from Stability, the newest open image family is still SD 3.5.

- High local barrier: you install the environment, tune params, manage the GPU yourself — newcomers bounce; closed tools are instant.

SD is our "trump card when control matters." Character concept art, rendering lineart into a final, training a style unique to a client — the freedom closed tools can't give, SD + ControlNet + LoRA can. But it's genuinely unfriendly: setting up the environment alone deters newcomers, and when it breaks you debug alone. Two warnings: don't trust "SD4 launched" marketing accounts — fake news, it's SD 3.5 now; and in 2026 FLUX beats SD on "photo-like," so chase realism with FLUX, choose SD only for controllable workflows. Small teams without a GPU who still want SD-class control can compromise with the Stability API or ComfyUI cloud hosting.
